First day of class is the usual: ice breakers and get to know you games. I don't know how effective it was for me because I was dead tired (still am).
The games were great. We listed pros and cons for each activity. They included ball toss to learn names and a teacher quiz. I would definitely use both in my classroom. We received a complementary lunch for the first day.
Let me tell you, I met a few interesting people. If anything, I'm happy to be in a classroom with others who share the same interests as me. We all want to travel--some to Shanghai, some to Korea, Myanmar, Japan, Portugal, and Qatar. The people are awesome too and so very sweet. Alhamdulilah I got the chance to enroll in this kind of program.
We started presenting on the second day (just activities and such) and there was a panel of other teachers who had taught abroad in various countries. It felt like a press conference and we were the press. Fun stuff. :)
I am slowly realizing how much fun this job might be. I know many teachers who teach abroad always comment about their life outside of the classroom, saying how wonderful their new home country is. But I'm happy to discover that I will hopefully iA love my job as well.
I have a homework assignment where I need to come up with my own ice breaker and teach it to class. Comment below and help me out. What are you favorite ice breaker games? :D
So interesting to read about this. So then your plan is to teach English abroad?? In more than one foreign country??
ReplyDeleteAs for ice breakers, I did one memory game a few times. You have them introduce themselves with an adjective like I'd say I'm "Brainy Brianna" and then the next person says "Hi Brainy Brianna, I'm Silly Sandy." Then the next person has to say hi to the first two and introduce themselves.
Another I did was with post-its where they write a name. It could be a singer or actor, etc. Then each person puts their post it on another person's back or forehead. Then they have to go around asking yes or no questions to guess. It's pretty fun :D
I replied below. oops :p
DeleteGreat ideas! and really helpful too ^_^
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to teach in Korea and possibly a middle eastern country. My main goal is to learn the local language. :)
