Aigoo... Blogging is much more difficult than I thought. XD
I was thinking the other day... Why do I like to travel? I like change, everyone does. But more than that, there's a beauty in the anticipation of something that's almost more wonderful than the thing itself. I usually have more fun planning a trip than during the trip. It's exhilarating to think you'll be in a different place someday soon doing new and adventurous things.
Buying the plane ticket. Packing. Taking 'before' pics and videos to preserve that adrenaline rush. Even going to Wal-Mart to buy snacks for the trip is a fun adventure. You're not really living in the city you're living in, nor are you in the place where you're going. It's sort of like an in-between feeling where you don't really belong anywhere yet the world is yours.
And that plane ride. Omo don't get me started on that. I love making my last rounds in my room, double checking that I haven't forgotten anything. I love the car ride to the airport as I try to memorize everything around me--the streets, the cars, the smell of the air, the whole atmosphere. I chitchat with my fellow travelers about what we absolutely must accomplish on our trip. And then.....you see the airplanes and the traffic and the crazy intersections and the airport signs and you can't hold it in. Your face explodes with excitement. Other families are saying their good byes and unloading their cars. You follow suit.
Let's fast forward past security checks and random searches (a story for another day) right to the waiting area to board. Having learned from past mistakes, we like to arrive at the airport a couple hours in advance leaving us with plenty of time to eat our last McDonald's and Coffee Bean meals. It's time to board and you meet your seat and make it nice and cozy.
Many people complain about the long hours in an airplane but I don't know why I love it. This is actually the best part. I think I only had two sucky airplane rides: once when I was placed in the last row's last seat next to the food and bathrooms (there was always a line for the restroom and we were always fed last) and once when I was sick and we had to sit near the engines--IT WAS WAY TOO LOUD.
Hours pass by and I'm absorbed in my own world of thoughts. I imagine the trip and the people and the city and the hotel and wallah it's amazing. Soon we have to land and I get the chance to begin my adventure in the airport of another city, immediately immersed in that country's culture. My first memory in a new place is always the smell of the air outside an airport--first impressions are unforgettable.
I really hope I get to travel soon inshallah. I also hope every trip is a fun adventure. Relax and be easygoing and I promise you will have a fabulous trip.
